New York Yankees: Nightmarish week lowers expectations

It’s been a tough week for the New York Yankees.

When they boarded their flight to the West Coast last Sunday, they were in high spirits. The Yankees had just won five straight home games against the Red Sox and Orioles by a combined score of 55-9. Everything seemed to be clicking. That five-game winning streak seemed to mean more than a few numbers in the standings. The Yankees had convinced people that they were a force to be reckoned with in the American League.

Now, less than a week later, they are only a half-game ahead of the Red Sox for the AL East lead.¬†They have lost six straight games to the Angels and Athletics, who both have records below .500.
