Loading ...In an offseason that has been one to forget for Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, it's now likely to become all the more forgettable. While the bulk of the past few months for Rodriguez has been marred by an abysmal post-season showing and major hip surgery that could potentially keep the 14-time All-Star sidelined all of 2013, a damning report this morning by The Miami New Times has for the second time in Rodriguez's career implicated him to use of performance-enhancing drugs. The reported use stems from as early as 2009 to this past season.
As reported late Saturday morning, a joint effort by the DEA and Major League Baseball has spearheaded an investigation into Anthony Bosch, a known advisor of Rodriguez. It was in the confiscation of written records obtained from Bosch that the latest Rodriguez revelation was made,
“There, at number seven on the list, is Alex Rodriguez. He paid $3,500, Bosch notes. Below that, he writes, “1.5/1.5 HGH (sports perf.) creams test., glut., MIC, supplement, sports perf. Diet.” HGH, of course, is banned in baseball, as are testosterone creams.”
Other prominent names in Bosch's records were former Yankee and current Toronto Blue Jay Melky Cabrera, who is coming off a substantial ban last season for high-testosterone levels as a San Francisco Giant, stemming from PED use. Additionally, Washington Nationals ace Gio Gonzalez, Oakland Athletics starter Bartolo Colon, and Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz have also been implicated to PED ties with Bosch and his father, physician Pedro Bosch.
Needless to say, the swearing off of any kind of PED following his admission to previous steroid use before the 2009 season makes Rodriguez the most prominent name in this latest ring. While Ken Davidoff of the New York Post reports that the Yankees plan to avoid getting involved in this investigation, it's safe to assume this will be closely scrutinized by general manager Brian Cashman and the Yankees front office.
Simply put, should this amplify, have we seen the last of Rodriguez in pinstripes?
