Besides Franklin also returning will be pitching coach Tommy Phelps starting his fifth season with the team, as well as, coach Luis Dorante and Athletic Trainer Scott DiFrancesco for their second seasons.
New additions to the Thunder coaching staff will be hitting coach Justin Turner (who has been in the Yankees organization for three years at Tampa and Charleston) and strength and conditioning coach Orlando Crance.
"Tony Franklin is a true professional and a great asset to the Thunder and our community," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith via Trenton Thunder press release. "We're happy to welcome Tony back to guide the team during our 20th season celebration."
Franklin has been very successful as manager of the Thunder leading them to back-to-back Eastern League Championships in 2007 and 2008 and most recently appearances in the Eastern League Championship in 2010 and 2012. Tony's record at Trenton is 488-390 with four post-season appearances in the last six years of his tenure. Franklin's career record is 1080-973 and in during the 2012 season he got his 1000 career win and was named Eastern League Manager of the Year.
As stated in their team's press release, The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, are located in Trenton, NJ and play in the 12 team Eastern League. The Thunder have drawn over 7.7 million fans in 19 years and have won the three major awards that Minor League Baseball teams can win; the Johnson Trophy for the "Nation's Best Franchise" (2005), the Larry MacPhail Trophy for Outstanding Club Promotion (2003) and the Bob Frietas Award for Long-Term Success (1998, given by Baseball America).
