During the recent general managers' meeting one of the names being bantered around was that of Arizona Diamondbacks' Justin Upton. The 25 year old didn't have one of his best season's last year, but is still considered one of the most young talented outfielders in the game.

Upton has a limited no trade-clause that says he could block a trade to four teams, as reported by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily NewsNew York was one of those original teams, but his list has been updated according to sources privy to that information and the Yankees are no longer on that list.

With the Bombers determined to get under the $189 million dollar payroll big time free agents are not an option, but the trade route would be their best bet of securing upgrades to this team.

Nick Swisher who was extremely productive during the regular season declined the Yankees offer leaving a gapping hole in right field. Replacing that production won't be easy especially if you aren't going the free agent route.

The righthanded hitting Upton battled a thumb injury all year and finished with a .280 average, 17 home runs and 67 RBIs. Upton's speed, above average defensive and young age are all up sides, excuse the pun, for a team that is aging rapidly.

Justin would also be under contract for the next three years at $38.5 million which is very attractive and reasonable. The Diamondbacks would want some major league ready talent, which may be a problem for New York who only has a couple of pitchers that fit that bill. The Yankees best position players are in the lower levels of the organization and aren't quite there yet to make it to the top level.

Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman will be looking at all possibilities to upgrade this club when the winter meetings commence in December.
