The New York Yankees were unable to complete the three game sweep against the Oakland Athletics as they lost 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Baltimore Orioles lost as well, so the Yankees were able to hold on to their one game lead in the American League East division.

Starter Hiroki Kuroda took the loss for New York after giving up seven hits, three walks, and five runs in five and two third innings. He is now 14-11 this season.

Also making appearances for the Yankees were Clay Rapada, David Phelps, Boone Logan, and Cody Eppley. The four relievers combined for three and a third scoreless innings to keep the Yankees close, but the Bronx Bombers couldn't drive in another run to make a comeback.

After being down 3-0 early in the game, Nick Swisher swung the momentum in New York's favor with a two run home run in the fourth inning. The Yankees would rally for two more runs in the inning thanks to an RBI double from Raul Ibanez and an RBI groundout by Eduardo Nunez, giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.

However, the Athletics would tie the game in the fifth inning and then take the lead in the sixth off Kuroda.

The Yankees will now travel to Minnesota to play the Twins at 8:10 PM ET on Monday.
