The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Saturday as Ivan Nova made his return from the disabled list and rejoined New York's starting rotation. The 25 year-old right-hander allowed just two runs and struck out eight in six innings to get the win, improving his record to 12-7 this season.
Also making appearances for the Yankees were Boone Logan, who allowed one run in a third of an inning, Joba Chamberlain, who pitched a scoreless two thirds of an inning, and David Robertson and Rafael Soriano, who each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Sparking New York's offense was Curtis Granderson and Eduardo Nunez, who gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead in the second inning with back to back home runs. Granderson's home run was a two run blast, giving him 39 homers this season.
Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez also contributed, each picking up an RBI single.
The Yankees and Rays will complete the series on Sunday at 1:05 PM ET.
