The New York Yankees have acquired 1B/OF Steve Pearce from the Houston Astros for cash considerations as tweeted by Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

To make room for Pearce on the 40-man roster Brandon Laird has been deactivated and designated for assignment. Laird was suppose to help as a right-handed power hitter, but never has panned out to the point of being consistently effective.

Pearce is no stranger to the Yankees' organization he was with the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees and had opt out in June to join the Baltimore Orioles.

After Baltimore he eventually moved to Houston. Between the Orioles and Astros Pearce played 49 games with three home runs and 22 RBIs, but the key is he has a .490 slugging percentage against left-handers.

Over this next 22 games the Yankees will be seeing a slew of left-handers and without Alex Rodriguez they miss that big right-handed bat in the line-up.
