New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was named the ninth most-disliked athlete in a poll done by Forbes. A-Rod also finished highest on the list as the most-disliked baseball player.
Ahead of A-Rod, in order from most-disliked, were Michael Vick, Tiger Woods, Plaxico Burress, Ndamukong Suh, Kris Humphries, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Terrell Owens. Kyle Busch finished just behind A-Rod to make the top 10.
The reasoning for the 36 year-old Rodriguez ending up on the list is not certain, but it probably has to do with the amount of money he makes and his reputation for struggling in the playoffs.
Though he is a three-time MVP and has 629 career home runs, he batted just .111 in last year's postseason and was the final out in game five, which eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs.
He also signed a 10 year, $275 million contract with the Yankees prior to the 2008 season, leading to many baseball fans calling him overrated.
In June, A-Rod was voted the most overrated player in baseball, followed by his teammates Derek Jeter and Joba Chamberlain, in a poll done by Sports Illustrated. The poll was voted on by baseball players around the league.
When you put on the pinstripes and play under the lights in the Bronx, everything you do is watched very closely. Any mistakes you make, on or off the field, will be recognized by the media, so players from the Yankees are pretty common on lists like these.
Despite the criticism that A-Rod constantly faces, he is one of the greatest players to ever take the field and has done many good things off the field as well, such as donating $3.9 million to the University of Miami.
