The New York Yankees have signed two outfielders, Dewayne Wise and Cole Garner, to minor league deals, tweets Matt Eddy.
Last week, the Yankees resigned veteran Andruw Jones, who served as the team's fourth outfielder last season. With Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher as starters and Jones as a backup, Wise and Garner will most likely start the season in the minors.
The 33 year-old wise batted .202 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and six stolen bases while spending time with both the Toronto Blue Jays and Florida Marlins last season. He is not considered a dangerous hitter, but is known for making flashy plays with his glove. His most memorable catch came in 2009, when he made a leaping grab to save Mark Buehrle's perfect game in the ninth inning.
Garner is 27 years old, but has only appeared in four career major league games. In 2011, he batted .222 with three RBIs in four games with the Colorado Rockies. He spent the rest of his time at Colorado's Triple-A affiliate, Colorado Springs, where he batted .330 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs.
Wise and Garner aren't expected to see much time at the major league level, but they give the Yankees some extra depth in case any injuries occur throughout the season. Depending on how they perform during spring training, both players will most likely start the season with New York's Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
