YANKEES 101

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 9-3 on Sunday afternoon, completing the series sweep. On the mound for the Yankees was ace, C.C. Sabathia, who pitched seven and a third innings while striking out ten and allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.

Sabathia continued his dominant season, earning his 19th win of the season. The Cy Young candidate now has a 19-7 record with a 2.97 ERA.

Finishing the eighth inning was Rafael Soriano, who allowed a run and two hits. Corey Wade pitched the ninth and allowed one walk and struck out two.

Derek Jeter led the Yankees' offense, going 2-5 with a home run and five RBIs. The Captain's three run homer in the third inning was his first home run since July 25, and his fifth home run this season.  

Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher also hit home runs for the Yankees. A-Rod's was a solo shot in the sixth inning while Swisher's was a two run shot in the eighth. Rodriguez now has 15 this season and Swisher has 22.

Yankees' youngster Jesus Montero went 2-3 as the DH, giving him his first career multi-hit game. He's now 3-10 with two runs scored in three games since being called up on September 1.

For Toronto, Jose Bautista hit his 40th home run of the season. He is the first player in Major League Baseball to reach the 40 home run mark this season.

New York (85-53) is now one and a half games ahead of the Boston Red Sox (84-55) for first place in the AL East.

The Yankees finish their home stand with a three game series against the Baltimore Orioles starting Monday night. Projected starters for the Yankees are Freddy Garcia, Phil Hughes, and A.J. Burnett.
